I was born and grew up in paradise. I lived most of my life as a Pollyanna, wearing rose-colored glasses. In recent years, my glasses broke and I saw and became aware of Reality.

2005 not off to a good start

My Dad used to say that Bad News Comes in 3's. I hope he was right. So far, in 2005, I've had 3 events of bad news.

On Jan 2, my beloved PJ died of congestive heart failure at the age of 14. He was my friend, my companion, my clown, my love, my joy, my baby. PJ was a handsome little red Dachshund whom I loved very much...I still do.

On Jan 28, my 87-year-old mother died of a stroke. I wasn't close to her and hadn't seen her in years but she was still very active and I guess I always thought there would be time.

Today, I learned my son, living over a thousand miles away, has pneumonia. He's very sick but doing well. He just needs a lot of rest and his medication. His fiancee is taking care of him. I'm happy they have each other. They've been good for each other.

If my Dad was right, that's the end of bad news for a while...I hope a long while.

If the rest of the year goes as planned, then 2005 will be okay. Not great without my PJ, but okay.

In May, I'll be going to California when my niece has her first child. I'll be able to visit with my brother and his family and other family members living in nearby areas. A photo and video event.

In June, one of my sisters will be coming for her first visit here and staying for at least a month. I'm looking forward to that. While she's here, my 2 other sisters will be visiting on the weekends (they live 2-1/2 hours away) and we'll all be taking day trips around the state. It's been years since the 4 of us have spent time together. It promises to be fun and an occasion for a lot of photos and videos.

In September, my son will be marrying his fiancee and I'll be there. Another photo/video opportunity. When they leave for their Hawaiian honeymoon, I'll return here.

The holiday season will take care of the remainder of the year.

So, although the year began very sadly for me, the rest of the year promises to be better.
